"To have success in our lives we must create our own destiny and have the will to do so". In this phrase Dr. Tanous referred to outside influences in our lives. He believed that individuals know what they want in their lives and that each person can create this within themselves.
" With the Power of the Will, you think bad, you go bad; you think good, you go good. We can discover things within ourselves and transfer these from one area to another. There is doubt, and this reminds us that we are human. Expectations are followed through if we want things. If you have no dreams, you have no expectations. The will has no reasons. There is not a reason for everything that happens".
In his classes, Dr. Tanous listed ways to awaken individual powers and to enhance the key to success:
* effective communications
* no barriers, unless you create them
* list what you can do
* dynamics of attitudes
* approach things that are within our character or personality
* what you think about yourself, is how you will live
Dr. Tanous spoke about Inherited Consciousness, in which things are given to us from conception on, passed down from past generations. Our own consciousness is built on this inheritance and our decisions come from the sub-conscious. He felt that each person is born with the capacity to win at life, but this does not happen overnight. To win does not mean that there is a loser, but to win for yourself.
Examining where you came from is one way that Dr. Tanous would instruct his students on methods of changing the "Script" of their lives. They were then to re-write this script in a successful way that allows for winners and makes the transition from total helplessness to great independence and gaining back their identity. He felt that our individual destiny depended so much on our childhood.
"Once a person makes this decision to change they not only make it for themselves, but for the universe, for the common good."
